Polynucleotides
Unleash Your Skin's Natural Radiance with Polynucleotides at Byova!
Looking for a natural way to visibly reverse the signs of ageing? This innovative injectable treatment that harnesses the power of your body's own regenerative processes to deliver stunning results. Working synergistically with your body, subtle improvements are promoted without altering your natural features. Polynucleotides consist of short fragments of DNA, which play a vital role in cellular communication. When injected into the skin, they trigger a cascade of beneficial effects, such as increased collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production, improved skin texture, reduced fine lines and wrinkles, increased skin firmness and reduced hyperpigmentation.

Before and After

Frequently asked questions
Polynucleotides are a unique approach to skin rejuvenation. These are highly purified DNA fragments that work by stimulating your body's own regenerative processes.
The Science Behind Polynucleotides:
Building Blocks of Life: Polynucleotides are essentially chains of nucleotides, the building blocks of DNA, which are fundamental to cellular function and communication. These are made from PDRN Fish DNA, which is exceptionally safe and effective at promoting skin health without an immune response.
Natural Origins: The Polynucleotides used in aesthetic treatments are typically derived from purified sources like salmon.
Stimulating Regeneration, Not Adding Volume:
Bio-Stimulatory Effect: Unlike dermal fillers that add volume to specific areas, Polynucleotides work by stimulating your body's natural collagen production and cellular renewal, leaving you with natural looking results.
Improved Skin Matrix: Polynucleotides enhance the extracellular matrix, the scaffolding that supports your skin cells. This leads to a firmer, more elastic, and youthful appearance.
Hydration Boost: Injected past the outer skin barrier, Polynucleotides can also attract and retain water molecules deep within the skin, keeping it plump and hydrated from the inside out.
Free Radical Protection: Polynucleotides protect against oxidative stress, a key factor in skin ageing.
Tissue Regeneration: Polynucleotides stimulate the skin's own healing processes to reverse signs of ageing.
Benefits:
Polynucleotides offer a range of potential benefits for improving skin health and appearance:
Combination treatments: Polynucleotides improves the skin quality prior to dermal filler treatments, and are great for healing pre- and post-surgical treamtents (such as a surgical face lift or hair transplant). For stubborn fine lines, polynucleotides make a great addition after or alternative to anti-wrinkle injections.
Reduced Wrinkles and Fine Lines: Increased collagen production due to Polynucleotide stimulation leads to a noticeable reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Enhanced Skin Texture and Elasticity: Polynucleotides improve skin texture and elasticity, giving you firmer skin, reversing signs of ageing.
Improved Hydration: Polynucleotides promote hydration by increasing production of hyaluronic acid, leading to a plumper and more glowy complexion.
Reduced Signs of Aging: By targeting various aspects of skin health, Polynucleotides can help combat visible signs of aging, such as wrinkles, loss of elasticity, and dryness.
Considering Polynucleotides? If you're interested in exploring the potential of Polynucleotides for facial rejuvenation, book a consultation with our highly experienced Byova clinicians. They can discuss your goals, assess your suitability for Polynucleotide treatment, and create a personalised plan to achieve your desired outcome.
Generally, for optimum results, a course of three sessions three weeks apart is recommended, and then 1-2 sessions every 6-9 months later. You can expect the best results from 3 months after the first injection.
Important Considerations:
Gradual Results: Unlike Dermal Fillers that provide immediate volume, Polynucleotide results develop gradually over time as your body's collagen production increases.
Multiple Sessions: Typically, a series of Polynucleotide treatments spaced at specific intervals are recommended for optimal results.
Maintenance: Whilst Polynucleotides do stimulate long-term tissue regeneration, the visible results often last for several months and require maintenance treatments.
Avoid using any topical retinoids for 7 days prior to the treatment (if on oral Accutane, you will not be suitable for this treatment for 6 months after completing your course of Accutane).
Step 1: Preparation
Cleansing: The area to be treated will be thoroughly cleansed.
Numbing: Treatment is generally well tolerated without the need for numbing cream, but this can be discussed with your Byova clinician.
Step 2: Treatment
Tiny Injections: A highly experienced Byova clinican will use very fine needles or a cannula to deliver the Polynucleotides into your skin. The injection depth and technique will vary depending on the targeted concern.
Comfort Measures: Throughout the procedure, the Byova clinician will prioritise your comfort. They might use a very thin needle, inject slowly, or apply pressure to the injection site to minimise discomfort.
Rejuvenation: Once injected, the ingredients get to work. They stimulate the surrounding tissues to heal, regenerate, and produce more collagen, leading to the desired benefits like improved skin quality and thickness.
Step 3: Aftercare
Your Byova clinician will go through all the necessary aftercare with you and your follow-up appointments. (Gently massage your face, avoid using make up for 8 hours, no intense working out for 48 hours, no sauna/steam room use for 5 days, and do not use topical retinoids for 7 days after.)
Byova's Expertise: At Byova, our experienced professionals use advanced techniques and follow strict protocols to ensure optimal results and patient safety. We will discuss the entire process in detail during your consultation and answer any questions you may have. Byova can help you determine if Polynucleotides are right for you and create a personalised treatment plan to achieve your desired outcome.
Polynucleotide application is a generally well tolerated treatment. Please discuss with your Byova Clinician if you require numbing cream.
Try not to drink any alcohol within 24 hours prior to your appointment or caffeine on the day of your appointment.
Arrive to your appointment without make-up or we can remove it for you.
Do not have treatment 2-4 weeks before or after a laser treatment or chemical peel, as this can increase swelling and redness or hyperpigmentation.
Avoid sun exposure for 24 hours prior to treatment.
Polynucleotides typically involves minimal downtime, allowing you to get back to your daily routine quickly. Immediately after treatment, you will experience some minor swelling, redness, and tenderness. This is usually temporary and resolves within a few hours or days. Gentle face massages will help to envourahe healing.
To avoid the risk of any complications, please follow the below after care:
Most people will be able to return to normal activities.
Keep hydrated to help your skin heal and rejuvenate faster.
For the first 8 hours after being treated, do not apply makeup or have a spray tan and avoid unnecessarily touching your face as this will help to reduce the risk of infection. You can still wash your face as normal with clean hands.
Avoid alcohol for 24-48 hours after being treated to reduce swelling and redness.
Avoid vigorous exercise for 2 days, and sunbathing, extreme temperature (hot and cold) such as saunas/steam baths for 5 days to reduce prolonged swelling, redness and infection risk.
Do not have microneedling done 2-4 weeks before or after a laser treatment, IPL or chemical peel, as this can increase swelling and redness.
After treatment, wear sunscreen and avoid UV exposure.
Do not have facial-electro stimulation, dermaroller/microneedling, semi-permanent makeup or microdermabrasion for up to 4 weeks before and after your treatment, and not until your treatment has completely healed. This is to reduce swelling and infection risk.
Leave 2 weeks after treatment before having Dermal Filler or Anti-Wrinkle injections.
Some tenderness during and after treatment is normal. You can use painkillers and cold compresses (a clean cloth dipped in cold water, wrung out, applied to the injected area) to help any discomfort. Arnica cream, fresh pineapples/bromelain tablets can reduce bruising and swelling.
If redness, tenderness, itching and swelling continues to worsen after a few days, contact us.
Escalating pain is not normal, and you must contact us for follow up.
Whilst Polynucleotides are an extremely safe and effective treatment, it's important to be aware of some potential risks involved. If you have an allergy to fish, this treatment is unsuitable for you. Here's a summary to ensure you make an informed decision:
Possible Side Effects:
Temporary Discomfort: The injection process can cause some minor swelling, redness, tenderness, or bruising, itching and bleeding at the injection sites. These effects are usually temporary and resolve quite quickly or within a few hours or days.
Allergic Reaction: Although rare, allergic reactions to the product are possible.
Infection: As with any injection procedure, there's a slight risk of infection. Byova uses strict sterilisation protocols and experienced medical professionals to minimise this risk.
Lump Formation: In rare cases, small bumps or nodules may form at the injection site. These can typically be addressed by massage or additional injections, or require the antibiotics.
Extremely rare risks:
Vascular Occlusion: In extremely rare cases, an injection can block a blood vessel. This can lead to a lack of blood flow, and if left untreated, can lead to tissue necrosis in the affected area. Symptoms may include severe pain, blistering, and skin discoloration. It is usually immediately obvious that a vascular occlusion has occured and can be safely reversed with massage.
Vision changes: This is an exceptionally rare complication, but it's important to be aware of it. Misplaced product near the eye area can potentially impede blood flow to the retina, leading to vision problems or even blindness. Again, choosing a highly skilled and experienced professional significantly reduces this risk.
Skin discolouration at the site of injection.

If you have a bleeding disorder, such as haemophilia.
Some supplements such as Vitamin A, C or E, Ginkgo Biloba, Garlic, fish oils, St. John's Wort or some pain killing medicines such as aspirin, or ibuprofen or bloodthinning medication can increase your risk of bruising and bleeding.
