Frequently asked questions
Mesotherapy is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that uses tiny injections to deliver a customised cocktail of hyaluronic acid, anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals directly into the middle layer of your skin. This bypasses the outer barrier of skin allowing for full absorption of the products. The targeted approach offers a range of potential benefits for improving skin health and appearance.
Here's a closer look at mesotherapy and its advantages:
Targeted Delivery: Mesotherapy uses fine needles to deliver a personalised blend of ingredients exactly where they're needed. This customized cocktail can include vitamins, minerals, hyaluronic acid, amino acids, and even medications depending on your specific concerns.
Enhanced Skin Quality: Mesotherapy can address various aesthetic concerns, including:
Fine lines and wrinkles: By stimulating collagen production, mesotherapy helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, leading to smoother and younger-looking skin.
Uneven skin tone: Mesotherapy can target pigmentation issues and improve overall skin tone for a more radiant complexion.
Sun damage: Mesotherapy can help address the visible signs of sun damage, such as hyperpigmentation and loss of elasticity.
Biorejuvenation: Mesotherapy aims to stimulate your body's natural healing processes. The injected ingredients can trigger increased collagen production, and enhanced cellular activity, leading to a more revitalised appearance. Your own body is stimulated which maintains a natural looking result.
Considering Mesotherapy?
If you're interested in exploring the potential of mesotherapy, have a personalised consultation with one of our Byova clinicians. They can discuss your concerns, assess your suitability for treatment, and create a personalised plan using the right combination of ingredients to achieve your desired outcome.
Step 1: Preparation
Cleansing: The area to be treated will be thoroughly cleansed.
Numbing: Treatment is generally well tolerated without the need for numbing cream. Numbing cream can reduce the absorption of the product.
Step 2: Treatment
Tiny Injections: A qualified Byova clinican will use very fine needles to inject the customised solution into the middle layer of your skin. The injection depth and technique will vary depending on the targeted concern.
Comfort Measures: Throughout the procedure, the Byova clinician will prioritise your comfort. They might use a very thin needle, inject slowly, or apply pressure to the injection site to minimise discomfort.
Rejuvenation: Once injected, the ingredients get to work. They stimulate the surrounding tissues to heal, regenerate, and produce more collagen, leading to the desired benefits like improved skin quality.
Optional:
Boost: Boost the effectiveness of your treatment by adding on microneedling to the target area. Micro-channels will increase absorption of the mesotherapy ingredients.
Step 3: Aftercare
Your Byova clinician will go through all the necessary aftercare with you and your follow-up appointments. Mesotherapy is minimally invasive, and downtime is usually minimal. You might experience some temporary swelling, redness, or soreness at the injection site, but these typically resolve within a few days.
Byova's Expertise: At Byova, our experienced professionals use advanced Mesotherapy techniques and follow strict protocols to ensure optimal results and patient safety. We will discuss the entire process in detail during your consultation and answer any questions you may have. Byova can help you determine if Mesotherapy is right for you and create a personalised treatment plan to achieve your desired outcome.
Generally, for optimum results, a course of treatments will take place every 4-6 weeks for a series of 3-6 treatments.
Important Considerations:
Multiple Sessions: Mesotherapy often require a series of sessions for optimal results. The specific number will depend on the individual and the treatment goal.
Maintenance: Whilst Mesotherapy does stimulate long-term tissue regeneration, the visible results often last for several months and require maintenance treatments.
Mesotherapy is a generally well tolerated treatment. Numbing cream is not generally recommended as this will reduce to absorption of the ingredients.
Try not to drink any alcohol within 24 hours prior to your appointment or caffeine on the day of your appointment.
Arrive to your appointment without make-up in the target area or we can remove it for you.
Do not have treatment 2-4 weeks before or after a laser treatment or chemical peel, as this can increase swelling and redness or hyperpigmentation.
Avoid sun exposure for 24 hours prior to treatment.
Mesotherapy typically involves minimal downtime, allowing you to get back to your daily routine quickly. Immediately after treatment, you will experience some minor swelling, redness, and tenderness. This is usually temporary and resolves within a few hours or days. Other reactions may include slight tightness and mild flaking.
To avoid the risk of any complications, please follow the below after care:
Most people will be able to return to normal activities.
Keep hydrated to help your skin heal and rejuvenate faster.
For the first 24 hours after being treated, do not apply makeup or have a spray tan and avoid unnecessarily touching your face as this will help to reduce the risk of infection. You can still wash your face as normal with clean hands.
Avoid alcohol for 24-48 hours after being treated to reduce swelling and redness.
Avoid vigorous exercise, sunbathing, extreme temperature (hot and cold) such as saunas/steam baths to reduce prolonged swelling, redness and infection risk.
Do not have Mesotherapy and microneedling done 2-4 weeks before or after a laser treatment, IPL or chemical peel, as this can increase swelling and redness.
After treatment, wear sunscreen and avoid UV exposure.
Do not have facial massages, facial-electro stimulation, dermaroller/microneedling, semi-permanent makeup or microdermabrasion for up to 8 weeks before and after your treatment, and not until your treatment has completely healed. This is to reduce swelling and infection risk.
Leave 2 weeks after Mesotherapy before having Dermal Filler or Anti-Wrinkle injections.
Some tenderness during and after treatment is normal. You can use painkillers and cold compresses (a clean cloth dipped in cold water, wrung out, applied to the injected area) to help any discomfort. Arnica cream, fresh pineapples/bromelain tablets can reduce bruising and swelling.
If redness, tenderness, itching and swelling continues to worsen after a few days, contact us.
Escalating pain is not normal, and you must contact us for follow up.
Whilst Mesotherapy is generally considered a safe and effective treatment, it's important to be aware of some potential risks involved. Here's a summary to ensure you make an informed decision:
Temporary Discomfort: The procedure itself can cause some minor discomfort. Topical anestheticis not recommended as it will reduce absorption of the platelet growth factors. You might also experience some redness, swelling, or pinpoint bleeding immediately after the treatment. These effects are usually temporary and resolve within a few hours or days.
Infection: As with any procedure that penetrates the skin, there's a slight risk of infection. Byova uses sterilised needles and adheres to strict hygiene protocols to minimise this risk.
Allergic Reaction: If you have allergies to certain ingredients or disinfectants used during the procedure, you might experience an allergic reaction. Discussing your medical history during your consultation is crucial to identify any potential risks.

Some supplements such as Vitamin A, C or E, Ginkgo Biloba, Garlic, fish oils, St. John's Wort or some pain killing medicines such as aspirin, or ibuprofen or bloodthinning medication can increase your risk of bruising and bleeding.
